Trap Door strives to be Chicago's haven for obscure and rarely produced works, with an emphasis on international--generally European and Eastern European--plays and playwrights.  It challenges mainstream entertainment with non-linear narration, controversial or under-served perspectives, and attempts to have thoughtful impact on its audiences. Often, the texts Trap Door produces are unavailable in the U.S.; the theatre's networking and connections have allowed it to access these obscure scripts, playwrights, and artists. Trap Door continuously endeavors to be a home for the "other" as seen in terms of content, staging, personnel, and audiences eager to explore, literally, another world of performance that lies outside of colloquial programming.
